Peter Farmer, FCA, FCILT, FIFP

Peter Farmer qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1972 and entered the transport sector the following year. He gained experience in national road transport and parcels distribution with the Atlas Express Group before moving to the international companies of the group becoming Managing Director of the surface forwarding organisation, Eurofreight, and a Director of Atlas Air.

Eurofreight was mainly operating in the European and Scandinavian road sectors as well as deep sea forwarding and, to achieve expansion of the business, Peter merged the company with another forwarder and completed a management buy-out in 1984 renaming the company ABI Limited.

In 1988, he sold this company to Agence Maritime International of Antwerp, a subsidiary of CMB and, during 1989, as Managing Director of their UK forwarding operations, Peter successfully established an air freight company at Heathrow and a deep sea forwarding company to handle the group business to Africa.

From 1990, in association with another industry consultancy, Peter established a Mergers & Acquisitions division and since then has been advising a wide range of companies in the freight sector regarding corporate restructuring, and the sale and purchase of businesses.  However, from January 2000, he determined it was time to operate entirely separately and founded PFA with his existing team.

For a number of years, Peter served as Honorary Treasurer of the British International Freight Association and sat on the Executive Board and Advisory Council of that body.  He has also been a Council Member of the Chartered Institute of Transport.
